Tending the shop

Locals told me about the magnificent parallel economy that exists in Cuba to circumvent the lack of internet: the Paquete. It’s a 1TB hard drive that arrives every Monday. It costs 5CUC (i.e. $5) the first day of the week, 3CUC the second etc., and it contains all the media you can dream of: all the recent shows and movies, retrospectives of films and shows, newspapers, music etc. It’s an entirely parallel economy that is actually tolerated by the regime –as long as no violent or “anti-revolutionary” content is found on the paquete. I heard it employs around 10.000 people and generates hundreds of thousands of CUC…
